How to Easily Copy Playstation 3 (PS3) Games on an Apple Mac

You’ve just sat down to play one of your favorite games for the PS3 (Grand Theft Auto, maybe?). You insert the disc and wait for it to load, but then, disaster strikes. The game disc has been scratched and is no longer playable. Looks like you’ll need some new plans for the evening.

The situation described is one of many reasons you should copy your PS3 games. Playstation 3 games often cost in excess of $60, and replacement costs for damaged discs add up. An unfortunate fact of gaming is that no matter how careful you are with the game media, over time wear and tear does, can, and likely will occur.

Up until several months ago, copying PS3 games was a real chore and required use of a PC with special hardware installed. The process to backup the games was complicated being that copy protections built into the individual games had to be cracked or bypassed. Very few people were able to successfully create a playable copy of a game. That has all changed now.

Feature rich software has been developed for use on both PC and Mac that allows even the most casual gamer to effortlessly make a copy of their entire video game collection using nothing more than the click of a mouse. The software functions by reading the original game disc and copying the contents of the disc into system memory. Once there, the copy protection, if any, built into the game disc is analyzed and bypassed if necessary. A copy of the disc can then be made.

Sony Cybershot DSC S950 Review

The Sony Cybershot DSC S950 is a simple, snapshot digital camera. It has 10 megapixels and a 4x optical zoom lens. Like other Sony digital cameras the Cybershot DSC S950 has a feature called Smart Zoom. This feature increases the amount of zoom available to you when you take photos at lower resolutions. This transforms this camera into one with up to 22x zoom available.

In theory the 2.7 inch LCD screen is a step up on what you are likely to see on the most basic digital cameras. I say in theory, because while testing this camera I found the LCD screen very difficult to see when the sun caught the screen. Although this can be a problem with many digital cameras this problem was more pronounced with the Cybershot DSC S950.

Compared with many entry level digital cameras the Cybershot DSC S950 is fairly compact. It will fit into a pocket, but it might be a bit of a squeeze. There is not much to report when it comes to the design of the camera. It has that typical rectangular look that most digital cameras have. To add a touch of variety Sony offer three different coloured versions. These are in black, silver and pink.

One of the reasons for the compact size is the fact that the camera runs on a lithium ion battery. These are a fair bit smaller than AA batteries and help to keep the dimensions of the camera down. Sony suggests you should get over 300 shots in between charges. They supply a charger and a battery as standard.

If I was serious about macro photography I would accept I have to pay more for a digital camera that can produce great macro shots. Mind you the Cybershot DSC S950 can get in quite close at 5cm from the subject. My macro tests were good without being anything special. Under artificial lighting my macro shot took on a blue colour caste. Beware of this if you are taking photos under different lighting conditions. It may be something you can reduce by working with the different white balance controls that are available to you.

An area where the camera does not measure up is with the movie mode. This is one of the few digital cameras unable to produce TV quality movies. The maximum resolution available is 320 x 240 pixels. This is enough to create movies for playback on a computer, but I am surprised Sony has put in this limitation, especially with more and more cameras moving up to offer High Definition movies.

As you would expect, Sony has not gone overboard when it comes to features. The camera does have the now obligatory face detection setting. I am not totally convinced of the value this adds to a camera. After all there were millions of great portrait shots taken before it was introduced. Sony has included image stabilisation to reduce problems caused by camera shake. There is also a feature that helps to clear up any red eye problems in a portrait shot taken using flash.

On the whole I felt picture quality could have been a bit better, even in a low priced camera. The pictures could have been a degree sharper and detail was lost in bright areas of photos. I also found the camera one of the slowest I have tested for started up times. It was more than five seconds between turning the camera on and the first picture being captured. Turning the flash on also slows the Cybershot DSC S950 right down increasing the danger of missing a photo.

What You Can Download For Your PSP

If you have a Sony Playstation Portable and think it’s just for games…guess again! After tons of research and tinkering, we’ve found a slew of cool gadgets and perks to make your PSP a breathing mobile living room. Let’s start with the most obvious.

Download-able Games: for those tired of buying game after game, you’re murses (man purses) and pocketbook’s are now safe. There are literally dozens of websites on the internet today offering unlimited game downloads for a small one time membership price. These pay sites contain almost every game released to date. All that’s required to take advantage of these memberships are: Internet connection on a reasonable PC, PSP memory stick, PSP USB Cable, & software to transfer the files (included with most membership sites). For a complete tutorial on how to move games from your PC to your PSP please see the link at the bottom of this article.

Movie, TV Show, & Music Videos: PSP Movie’s are also available from the same sites that offer the games. Downloads are available in HD / DVD quality so there is literally no suffering in picture quality. There is numerous software programs available to decrypt you’re existing DVD collection but unless your technically savvy, your safest bet is to stick to the membership sites.

Music: You don’t have to subscribe to a content provider to get your PSP turned into a portable jukebox (or 8 track if you’re from the 70′s). There’s multiple ways to get the music you love onto your device. The most popular ways are: 1) Moving already downloaded mp3′s 2) Ripping a CD into MP3 format, then transferring the files. There are a lot of free programs that can assist with getting the music where you need it to go so be sure to search Google.

Wallpaper, Skins, & Themes: Wallpaper, Skins, & Themes are great ways to customize your PSP to your own personality. A recent search in Google provided 227,000 results. If you search any search engine you should have your hands full with plenty of cool content to keep you busy. If you’re not sure what were talking about here I’ll give a quick rundown… Wallpaper is simply the graphic you see as your background when your PSP is turned on. These graphics can be your favorite TV Show character or basically any formatted image that is supported. Themes are very similar to the themes you would find on a newer model cell phone. These themes provide different “feels & looks” while navigating through your PSP. Skins refer to the hard outer covering of your PSP. Unfortunately, for skins, you will have to purchase this either online or from your local game retailer.

Internet Browsers: If you didn’t already know, yes… The PSP can connect to existing Wi-Fi hot spots. Hot spots are areas with Wi-Fi service and are either accessed for free or for a fee. You can find hotspots at local bookstores, cafe’s, airports, etc. If you’re interested in using your favorite browser (such as internet explorer) you have two choices, hunt for the download or subscribe to a content provider.

Emulators For Nintendo, SNES, Sega Genesis, Turbo Grafx 16, Gameboy Advance & More: This by far has to be the my most popular feature. What are emulators you ask? They are programs that give you the ability to play all of the old platform games directly on your PSP. Yep, that means Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, The Legend of Zelda, and Super Mario Brothers… Here we come! Most Download Membership sites not only provide the emulators, they also provide all the games. That in itself, to me, is worth the price of admission.

Bonus Content: In addition to the above here’s a few more items you can load up. E-Books, Lyrics, Maps, Mods, Patches, Walkthroughs….. I think you understand now that there’s more to the Playstation Portable than just games.

If you’re interested in subscribing to a Download Membership Site but are not sure where to start, we’ve tested dozens of sites and listed our top picks for your convenience. Visit the website below.

HD Loader – Play PS2 Games From Your Playstation 2 Hard Drive

Any serious Playstation 2 (PS2) gamer knows the frustrations when it comes to playing the most graphically intense games. There is often a tremendous load time associated with getting from the point of putting the PS2 game disc into the console, and having it load the game. Not to mention the time it takes to load between levels. Or how about those times when you’re on a mission to thwart he bad guys, but you see the rendering getting choppy or freezing up for a second or two. We used to blame it all on game glitches or bugs. You know, those little “mistakes” that were just never fixed, because the game itself was working as it should. I know I thought that was the issue. Until I got my hands on the Playstation 2 HD Loader disc, and all of a sudden, my games were “glitch” free, and load times were a thing of the past. Let me start by explaining just what the HD Loader actually is.

Utilizing exciting new technology, The HD Loader allows you to install and run your Playstation 2(TM) games directly from a hard disk drive connected to your console (Sony PS2 Network adapter(TM) and compatible hard disk drive required). The HD Loader is a revolutionary piece of software which allows you to store games on any modern high capacity IDE Hard Drive connected to your PS2 (Sony Network adapter required ). Now you can install, delete and manage your games and files on your HDD with just a click of a button. The simple and intuitive multi lingual user interface allows easy navigation and selection of files stored on your Hard drive. Games are executed at lightning speed and accessed directly from the HDD, no need to insert your game disc. Just launch HD Loader and select the game you wish to play.

The HD Loader essentially turns your Playstation 2 console into what could be called a portable hard drive. Except that it not only allows you to store the games and the game data on the hard drive, but it also lets you LOAD those games directly from the hard drive too. And just what does all of this mean for you and me, the gamers? It means that once we’ve copied the game from the disc, onto any old IDE hard drive plugged into the Playstation 2, we’re able to put in the HD Loader disc, and select whichever game we want to play, a game we’ve already put on the Hard Drive.

You see, the Playstation 2(TM) is capable of reading data from a hard disk drive much faster than it can read from a CD or DVD. Using The HD Loader to run your games from a hard disk drive leads to significantly reduced game loading times. And updating as your on a level or load times between a level become things of the past. Never again will you need to endure painfully slow loading times which sadly plague so many Playstation 2 games. This applies for old and new games alike. One of the things that either Sony or game developers never really “worked on” was game loading time on the PS2. Take for example the same game title on either an Xbox or a PS2 console, and if you sat and times load times, you would notice a very big difference between how quickly a game loads on an Xbox (especially between levels) and how much faster the load times are than that same game on the Playstation 2. The reason for this is actually quite simple. The Xbox loads parts of the game data onto the built in, internal hard drive. Because the game data is already on the hard drive, it is essentially ready to “go” when the next level is loading, and it loads at lightning speeds.

Until the HD Loader was released, Playstation 2 gamers were envious of their Xbox counterparts. What the HD Loader does though, goes even beyond the simplistic level loading or reducing load times. It actually allows you to put the ENTIRE game, on the hard drive. And not just one game, as many games that will fit on to the hard drive you have installed into your PS2. So you’ll not only be able to have faster load times, but you’ll also be able to store the actual games, digitally, on your Playstation 2 hard drive, without having to damage your game discs in the process. There is no need for the discs to be used, so you can put them away for safe keeping. In fact, you can keep them as good as new because you’ll be loading the entire game from your hard drive, and not the disc itself.

I keep making mention of the fact that a PS2 Network adapter is required, if you want to use the HD Loader. This is in fact true, but the reality is, the Playstation 2 can NOT have a hard drive connected without a Network adapter. You see, the Network adapter acts as your IDE converter. While it is designed to let you get online, and play online games, it also has a plug on the inside, which allows you to connect a Hard Drive to the game console. This was developed mainly for the Final Fantasy game, which actually required a Hard Drive to play, to store and load content from the hard drive. Now before you go thinking that you’ll be stuck with a 40 gigabyte hard drive, the one that comes with the Final Fantasy game. It’s important for me to state that while you could use that 40 gigabyte hard drive, the HD Loader is compatible with both standard IDE hard disk drives and the official Playstation 2(TM) hard disk drive.. So you won’t be stuck with just 40 gigabytes, you can go right up to 120 gigabytes or 250 gigabytes of space. Any standard IDE Hard Drive will work, something that was also impossible before the HD Loader.

But much more than just playing games from your hard drive, you can also load MP3 music, your digital pictures, and a wide variety of other “data” on to the hard disc, and have access to it on the fly.

If you’re thinking “That’s great, I’ve got games on my Hard Drive, but how the heck to do I load them, or even see what’s there” then you’re in luck. The HD Loader user interface is designed with simplicity in mind – just boot up the HD Loader and begin playing your games without wasting any time navigating through a complex user interface. The interface lists all of your games and options, in an very easy to use and easy to navigate manner. The intuitive user interface allows easy management of games currently installed on your hard disk drive. Adding or removing games is as easy as pushing one of the buttons on your controller.

In short, the HD Loader is the ultimate Hard drive storage and management solution for your PS2 game console. Not only will it get rid of those awful load times, but it also offer you a chance to protect your expensive PS2 game collection, but storing the games on the Hard Drive while you’re playing them, and keeping the original games safe from scratches, dirt, or dust. So if you’re tired of long load times, and want to get into the action right away, then the HD Loader is probably THE must have item on your list for the holidays.

Sony Ericsson Mobile Phones – The Evolution Continues

Sony Ericsson have consistently held their place within the top 5 mobile phone manufacturers for over 10 years, this is in no small part due to the vast range of new handsets that the manufacturer releases on an almost weekly basis.

It does not seem that long ago when a Sony Ericsson mobile phone would conjure up images of square, brick shaped devices with a massive antenna poking out of the top of them, having said that these were still far smaller and feature rich than their competitors’ offerings, which were sometimes better at holding the door ajar than making wireless phone calls.

The merger between Sony and Ericsson took place 5 years ago and the combination of these two very capable manufacturers has produced some of the most sophisticated and functional mobile devices ever to grace the mobile market.

Sony Ericsson have catered for every users requirements, from the technofobes who shy away from new fandangled technology but realise they do have a need for a mobile phone if just for emergency situations right through to the gadget hungry, self proclaimed ‘geeks’ who relish the fact that they can own a the latest and most feature rich handsets.

At the bottom of Sony Ericsson’s portfolio where the handsets are simply for making and receiving calls and text messages there are the budget range. These include models such as the Sony Ericsson J100i and J230i.

These handsets are easy to use and do not include high-end features such as cameras, mp3 players and email support, they are simply there to make calling and texting a no hassle task. Because of the lack of these power draining applications these phones hold some of the longest battery lives of the Sony Ericsson range, ideal for people who literally just take their mobile phone with them in case of emergency.

Moving up the scale the next range of handsets encountered are the K-Series, these range from low specification, budget models with simple VGA cameras right through to 3.2 megapixel camera phones. This range is easily recognisable for its candy-bar design, there are no flips, clamshells or slider models, they are simply incased units with the display screen on the front of the phone with the keypad situated underneath and a camera lens on the back.

The low end of the K-Series offers models such as the K310i, a simple camera phone offering Bluetooth, Mp3 Player and 3D gaming. This model is small and light and not over fussy on design, ideal for users looking for a camera phone on a budget.

The mid range of K-Series features more technologically advanced models such as the Sony Ericsson K610i, a 3G enabled phone with a 2.0 megapixel camera and support for face to face video calling, this particular model is a great entry phone into the world of fast download speeds and mobile video that is 3G.

At the top of the K-series range there is the Sony Ericsson K810i, this device takes the camera to a high quality 3.2 megapixels with cybershot technology allowing for autofocus, zoom and flash. Other K810i features are Bluetooth, MP3 Player, FM Radio and 3G support.

The top of the range Sony Ericsson models and probably the most known of all of their phones are the W-series Walkman devices, this is where Sony really has their input of years of manufacturing Sony Walkman products such as portable CD players and MP3 players.

These are music orientated mobile phones, starting with the W300i that is a low budget, flip phone offering Walkman applications for uploading music tracks from a PC and creating playlists, finishing with the Sony Ericsson W880i, a slim and stylish music phone featuring a 2.0 megapixel camera, Bluetooth and 3G support, it is at the very top of the W-series and a gadget hunters dream device.

As Sony Ericsson move into the future they are already giving consumers a taste of what is to come, expect more and more megapixels from the cameras, new versions of the Walkman software for even more user defined options and new technologies for helping professionals in their businesses lives.

The mobile device is set to take over from standalone products such as cameras and MP3 players, in the future consumers should only need to leave the house with just one item to communicate, capture and amuse themselves and Sony Ericsson are certainly heading in the right direction to fulfill that dream.

The Sony Bravia KDL-46V2500 Is A High Quality LCD HDTV With Jaw Dropping Visuals

The 46″ Sony Bravia KDL-46V2500 LCD HDTV is a great set just like the smaller 40″ 40V2500. The picture is excellent out of the box but some recommend turning off the vivid setting and set it to neutral and then tweak the HDTV to perfection. The colors are incredible and breathtaking. Playing video games with the Xbox 360 or PS3 is beautiful and watching Blu-Ray movies in 1080p is just jaw dropping. There is a reason why Sonys cost more and the difference in quality is worth the difference in price.

The price for the Sony Bravia KDL-46V2500 LCD HDTV has dropped considerably as of this review so it can now compete against other brands if you’re on a budget. If you’re hesitant to pay for the more expensive and elegant XBR models, then the V-Series is the model to get. The XBR definitely looks better aesthetically, but performance wise you will not notice much difference unless you’re an HDTV expert. The 46V2500 uses the same LCD panel as the XBR series.

Watching HD Sony Bravia KDL-46V2500 LCD HDTV set is amazing, but most programs have not made the leap to HD yet. However, standard display is not bad and watchable compared to other HDTVs where it is absolutely horrible to look at anything non-HD. This set should hold you over until you get HD programming or until most programs switch to 1080p.

There have been some complaints on “fogginess” or “clouds” when the TV is displaying dark scenes. Some people cannot stand it and it is a deal breaker for them, but some people can tolerate it and consider it only a minor annoyance that is outweighed by the stunning picture quality. This problem does not seem to be appearing on every KDL-46V2500 however because a lot of people haven’t noticed the problem. It has also been reported that the fogginess has been fixed on models manufactured after December 6th 2007 so you should be fine if you buy a brand new one now, but double check to make sure.

The internal sound from the KDL-46V2500 is nice and clear and very good for a TV which is rare. The menu is also nice and intuitive and the remote control is okay, but may feel a little cheap. You’ll most likely get a universal remote anyway. Who has time to juggle multiple remote controls?

If you plan to watch DVD’s on the Bravia KDL-46V2500 LCD HDTV, I suggest you get an up-converting DVD player like Sony‘s DVP-NS77H/B 1080p Upscaling DVD Player with HDMI Output. The quality is so much better than regular DVD players and almost looks HD. I also suggest watching DVDs with widescreen format instead of fullscreen because the TV will distort and stretch the image and there are no settings around it.

Overall, the Sony Bravia KDL-46V2500 is a high quality LCD HDTV with jaw dropping visuals. Playing video games and watching movies will constantly wow you and your friends. If you’re looking for a great LCD TV at the right price, this set may be it. You’ll get Sony quality television with price that can compete with the Samsungs and Toshibas. I definitely recommend this.
